Wise May are looking for a collaborative Compliance Officer with strong experience working in the Insurance industry to join a leading provider of legal indemnity Insurance. As a Compliance Officer you will be responsible for the co-ordination of policies, procedures and business standards to ensure compliance with the financial regulator, commercial agreements i.e. principal insurers’ delegated authority arrangements, legislation and business model/framework.
This is a full time, permanent role, with hybrid working (3 days a week in the office and 2 days remote) and the hours are 9am-5.30pm.
Compliance Officer duties and responsibilities:
- Ownership of the delegated underwriting agreements and joint ownership with the Claims Manager of the delegated claims handling agreements, liaising as necessary with principal insurers in the negotiation and renewal of such agreements.
- Monitor and advise the Business on all relevant legislative and compliance developments impacting on the Business.
- Regularly review all regulatory and statutory materials relevant to the Business.
- Update the Business with all appropriate regulation and legislation in timely manner.
- Investigate compliance risks and issues and provide feedback as necessary.
- Provide compliance advice, guidance and support, assist in seeking resolution of compliance issues including any new regulatory initiatives, and provide education and training to the Business as necessary.
- Ensure that procedure manuals and policies are kept up to date and accurate, and they reflect the current regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Respond to ad hoc queries working with business managers to assist in delivering regulatory compliance, monitoring compliance and general administration.
- Create an audit framework which is suitable for the Business and undertake monitoring reviews ensuring that suitable solutions are implemented to address gaps or weaknesses identified.
- Be the liaison point for external audits/reviews, monitoring agreed remedial actions following such reviews and reporting progress.
- Assist with the assessment of adequacy or internal processes procedures and systems to ensure compliance with regulation and legislation and record keeping to better evidence compliance.
- Provide compliance advice on the design and structure of products services and procedures.
- Assist in the handling of all complaints ensuring all ‘lessons learnt’ are actioned; providing the regular and ad hoc reports.
- Liaise with Insurers on all matters of compliance and individual authorities and facilitate the implementation of any changes required in accordance with business protocols.
- Maintain close working relationships with the operational teams to ensure that suitable compliance support is provided in order to optimise Business activity.
Compliance Officer key skills and experience required:
- Demonstrable Compliance / Audit experience in an insurance setting (MGA, Broker, Insurer, Lloyds Syndicate).
- Knowledge and/or experience in drafting service level agreements and delegated underwriting authorities is highly desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of FCA guidelines, and relevant legislative frameworks.
- Relevant qualification e.g. ACII or ICA or progress towards this is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with compliance monitoring systems and methodology.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
- Independent, confident and ability to liaise and communicate with staff and clients at all levels.
